“As a teacher, it was always disappointing for me to see female students not attending school as their male peers. Lack of water in this area has significantly affected the educational performance of many girls.”

Why Water?
In Ethiopia, only 42% of the population has access to clean water supply, and only 21% of the population has access to adequate sanitation services. The problem is severe in the rural parts where women collect water from shallow ponds that are unsafe for drinking which leads to infections and sickness in children. In these areas only 45% of kids attend primary school as most young girls are put to work collecting water each morning and helping their families.
